Event Cancelled… for now

I hate to admit failure, but sometimes, there’s no choice. The rest of the organizing team for this even has had to bow out due to other more pressing commitments and I don’t think I can organize this all on my own. For anyone out there that comes across this even and thinks it’s a good idea and would like to help me make it happen. Please contact me. For now, we’re closed.

I’ll try and take away the lessons I’ve learned in how not to organize an event and share them so that hopefully, others don’t make the same mistakes I did.

The tickets are… FREE

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and it’s been bugging me that we were going to charge for the privilege of attending. So…

The tickets for Mobile Weekend Waterloo are now free, yup, you heard it… FREE

This does mean that we might not be able to provide all the luxuries to our attendants but I’m sure that we can pass the hat around if need be to get some food and drink.

So what are you waiting for? Get your ticket now!

Date Change – Sep 12th to 14th

Once again the date has changed, but this time for good, I promise. So… mark your calendars and get your tickets!

We have a real URL

Yup, MobileWeekend.net is now up and running and is this blogs main address. We’re really credible now :-)

FAQs are up

We’ve added the FAQs page. Trying to answer what we thought would be the most common questions. Please have a look at the FAQs for answers to any questions that you might have. And if there are any questions you think we’ve missed, please add a comment to the FAQ page with your question.

4 of the top 10 tech trends involve the Mobile space

On May 14th some of the foremost leaders in the VC space met and made predictions about the top 10 future Tech Trends. The full write up can be found here. Fred Wilson also did a great summary write up on his blog. What I found most promising is that 4 of the top 10 trends involved the mobile space.

Seems like this is the time to be building Mobile Applications.

Mobile Fund announced

Rick Segal just announced on his blog a new Mobile Fund. The fund is called the Blackberry Partners Fund and is $150 million strong.

The real beauty of the fund is that it’s not meant for Blackberry applications alone, it’s open to all platforms.

Way to go Rick Et Al, this is the kind of stuff we love to see happening here in Canada.

Tickets – are back

Well… due to an administration error on my part our tickets were up, but no one could buy any. The issue has been rectified and the ticketing system is back up and running.

You can get your tickets here.

A slight format change

After much debate and quite a few conversations with our friends and colleagues. We’ve decided to change the format at bit for Mobile Weekend. Instead of working on multiple ideas at the same time. We’re thinking of limiting the weekend to one idea but multiple platforms.

That way the business team can concentrate on developing the product features, business and marketing plans. All the while we can create multiple technical teams to address the different platforms out there (i.e. Android, Blackberry, Java, and of course browser based).

More details soon…

Date Change – Sep 2008

Well, it seems that all the organizers got really busy over the past month. So…. in order to ensure that we have a successful event, we’ve decided to postpone the even till early September 2008. We will post the finalized date very shortly.
